Why Use Spreadsheets When You Can Create Websites instead?

I prefer to create custom websites instead of using spreadsheet documents

There are many situations in our daily lives where a spreadsheet document can come in handy. Whether it is keeping track of our finances, contacts, tasks, or any other data that can be organized in a table structure. Spreadsheets are a great way to edit, store, and visualize that data. However, I find myself creating small custom websites for many purposes where a normal person would just fire up a spreadsheet program.

Website vs. Spreadsheet

The deciding factor whether to build a custom website or just use a spreadsheet document is how often I expect to use it. As soon as I realize that I need to reuse the same kind of spreadsheet for the same or a very similar purpose, I like to create a custom website for it instead. Especially when it is something that I intend to use every day, I rather have the convenience of a website.

Obviously, it takes a lot more time to build a custom website for a task than just using a spreadsheet document. However, depending on the problem, the website might save more time in the future than it took to create it. And even if it doesn’t end up saving time, building these websites is a lot of fun.
